The Heights

Conveniently located historic beauty.

Welcome to The Heights

A streetcar suburb and one of the earliest planned communities in Texas, The Heights—more formally known as Houston Heights but often expanded colloquially to include a larger collection of neighborhoods—is a dynamic neighborhood within the energetic city of Houston, Texas. Dating back to the 1800s, this area is brimming with historic homes and a charismatic vitality that’s hard to find.

Due to its history, as well as its constant change and growth, The Heights has a variety of residential architecture that appeals to all types of aesthetic preferences. The majority of residences are single-family homes—both single-story and two-story—in styles including Victorian, Craftsman bungalows, Queen Anne, Folk Victorian, and others. The Heights also has plenty of renting options in a wide range of prices.

Originally meant to draw in residents of the Houston metropolis who craved a suburban lifestyle over the density of city living, The Heights has since gone through an abundance of changes that have carved the community into an up-and-coming area of affluence with an eclectic, diverse population of young professionals and families.

What to Love

People and Lifestyle

This walkable, friendly community is perfect for young families looking to get their start. It boasts access to Houston’s many employment opportunities and excellent school systems—as well as a school district of its own—and is a proudly pet-friendly area. The Heights is also ideal for young individuals and professionals, and the city has seen an influx of affluent residents who’ve been contributing to the growth of commercial business, the renovation of historical homes, and the creation of newer, upscale homes as well.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

The Heights is full of opportunities to engage in a little retail therapy or explore your tastes at a wide variety of restaurants. Some of the best shopping in Houston can be found at Heights Mercantile, a creative urban market district that’s taken some of The Heights’ historic or forgotten buildings and renovated them into an incredible, one-of-a-kind shopping experience. Here, browse upscale brands like lululemon athletica and Aesop in addition to local shops like upscale, contemporary women’s clothing boutique Saint Lo Boutique.

For food, you have a cornucopia to choose from. Relish in the complex and incredible flavors at Pondicheri, where the cuisine is inspired by different regions in India and is sure to impress. An upscale French restaurant with a surprising, delicious twist inspired by the owner and chef’s Ecuadorian heritage, Maison Pucha is the place to go for excellence in fine dining. Enjoy the laid-back ambiance and open-air beauty of Wicklow Bungalow & Garden Bar, where the drinks flow freely, and the atmosphere is perfect for cultivating friendships and memories.

Things to Do

In The Heights, the allure of the area’s historic charm is evidenced by its many impressive, elegant venues that are perfect for hosting corporate events, weddings and receptions, and parties. The Heights Villa houses opulent ballrooms that add a palatial feel to every event hosted there. It also has the option of renting out luxuriant suites, decked out with mirrors, bathrooms, and comfortable seating, which are ideal for bridal parties to get ready before the big day.

For a cozier, more intimate setting, book your event at Heights Ironworks, where the chic- industrial feel and exposed wooden ceilings make a gorgeous backdrop for glamorous events. Here, you can book the location’s Yale House, a 5-bedroom historic home built in 1903 that provides an excellent place to crash after the festivities.

If you’re looking for incredible live music, you’ll find it in The Heights. The eclectic, multi-genre, and always exciting Dan Electro’s Bar provides great drinks and live music seven nights a week and even has a secret garden. Home to not one but three separate performance venues—the large first-floor interior, more intimate second floor, and incredible outdoor stage—the White Oak Music Hall is the place to go for concerts and big-name performances.
